Why Not! Be Unstoppable Have you found your life's purpose, or are you working away without anything meaningful to show for it? Are you pursuing your goals with inexhaustible enthusiasm, or do you wake up each morning dreading to go to work? How many of us work at unfulfilling jobs with no sense of passion or purpose? Cynthia Kersey had a successful career with a six figure income at a large company, but something was missing. After a lot of soul searching, she realized her true passion lie in encouraging others to succeed. She decided she wanted to write a book about how people overcame obstacles and achieved their goals. Now, Cynthia had never written a book before and knew nothing about the publishing industry. She had only one contact, Paul Orfalea, the CEO & Founder of Kinko's, but other than him, she didn't have any 'in' to get interviews with famous people. Realizing her dream wasn't going to be easy. She laid out a plan and prepared her course of action. First she and her husband downsized their lives. They got out of debt, sold their large expensive home and moved into a house half the size. Cynthia even traded in her Lexus for a VW Jetta (a car her 16 year old son didn't want to be seen driving). She quit her job, cashed in her life's savings (including her 401K and her husband's pension), and spent the next eighteen months interviewing hundreds of people for her book. Many of her friends thought she was crazy - giving up so much to chase an apparently unobtainable dream. They told her, "You think you can write a best-seller?" Cynthia's response, "Why Not!" She faced many challenges, but was persistent. She stayed focused on goal. Was it Tough? You bet. Did she feel discouraged at times? Definitely. "At one point it was hard to get any writing done," Cynthia says, "because the phone kept ringing with creditors and bill collectors looking for money." But Cynthia stayed focused on her goal. To help, she wrote out her goal and posted it around the house so she would have a constant reminder. She also kept what she calls a Victory sheet where she wrote down all the small successes along the way. And the stories she was writing also inspired her to keep going. She wrote about people who faced seemingly insurmountable odds, but their drive for success could not be stopped. While in the process of writing her book, Cynthia discovered specific characteristics that enabled ordinary people to achieve extraordinary success in all walks of life. Those common characteristics are: Purpose, Passion, Belief, Preparation, Teamwork, Creativity and Perseverance. Cynthia herself portrayed each of these characteristics during her struggle to realize her dream. "People often write the book they need most," she says. Now she has a best selling book, Unstoppable, selling over 90,000 copies and translated into three languages. She speaks at many organizations teaching others how to become unstoppable. She has appeared on numerous radio and TV shows including Today and Oprah. But most important, she has found her purpose in life. She is contributing to making the world a better place to live by encouraging and teaching others to realize their life's goals. Can you find a goal that fuels your passion and learn to be unstoppable in the face of opposition? Why Not!
